HONMONO (the “Service”) respects your privacy and handles personal information appropriately. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we share it.

1. Information we collect

  • Account info: email, username, display name, avatar (optional), location coordinates (optional)
  • User content: reviews, ratings (stars, authenticity), photos (up to 5), visit dates
  • Automatically collected: IP address, user agent, session data (used for abuse prevention and audit logs)
  • Analytics: page views, referrer, device type (only with consent — see section 6 below)

2. How we use information

  • To provide and operate the Service (authentication, displaying reviews, search)
  • To translate review content automatically (English ⇄ Japanese)
  • To prevent abuse, apply rate limits, and block bots
  • To improve the Service and develop new features
  • To send important notifications via email

3. Third-party services

We share the minimum necessary data with the following processors. Each handles data according to their own privacy policy.

  • Supabase — database, authentication, file storage
  • Anthropic (Claude) — automatic translation and summarization of reviews
  • Resend — transactional email delivery
  • Google Analytics 4 — usage analytics (only with consent)
  • Cloudflare Turnstile — bot protection (IP shared)
  • Google Places API — restaurant basic information
  • MapTiler — map tiles
  • Netlify — hosting

We do not sell your personal information.

4. Data retention

Account information and user content are retained until the account is deleted. Access logs and audit logs are typically deleted within 90 days. Public reviews may remain in anonymized form even after account deletion.

If you are in the EU, UK, or Switzerland, you have the right to:

  • Request access to and copies of your personal data
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request erasure (the “right to be forgotten”)
  • Request restriction of processing

6. Cookies and tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes. For visitors from the EU, UK, Switzerland, and the EEA, we show a consent banner on first visit and control analytics cookie firing using Google Consent Mode v2.

  • Necessary cookies: authentication session, language preference, region detection (set without consent)
  • Analytics cookies: Google Analytics 4 (fired only after consent in EU/UK/CH)

The Service is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
